AUTHOR INFORMATION:

I’ve been writing since first setting pencil to steno pad at age 8. A year later, I began developing the world of my current series-in-progress, and even created its title, The Silver Sphere. Now, with the support of years of experience, those early maps and back stories have progressed into what I hope is a fresh and entertaining take on the classic young adult fantasy adventure.

Despite my frequent escapes into parallel worlds, I root myself firmly in my very real family and community. When not pacing the yard maniacally after every few pages of writing, I spend as much time as possible hanging out with my studly 9-year-old son, and my inspirational wife Jenna. I also coach several local youth sports teams in Beverly Hills, and alternate between yelling at my two crazy Corgis and hiking with my trained German Shepherd.

For more, join me in my favorite fantasy worlds, from Lord of the Rings to the creations of C.S. Lewis, Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks. Even more importantly, stop by and say hello on my Facebook page at AuthorMichaelDadich, tweet me at @MichaelDadich, and stalk my website at http://www.thesilversphere.org.org.

Michael will be awarding a $75 Amazon or BN.com GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tours.

Maven Fairy Godmother- Through The Veil: Review & Excerpt

BLURB: Maven's new dream job--fairy godmother--presents more problems than she expects when she learns that Faery is on the verge of collapse, and the person who is training her isn't giving her the facts--and may be out to kill her. Will she be able to make all the fractured fairy tales fit together into a happy ending, or will she be eaten by a troll?

EXCERPT: A scratching noise caught Maven’s attention when it began to rattle the door. The latch moved, but not quite far enough to allow the door to open. Maven set her teacup down and pushed herself up out of her chair. She was stiff from sitting still for so long.
All right, all right, don’t have a hissy fit,” she muttered. “Are you going to let me open the door?” she said to the house.
The latch flew up, the door crashed back against the wall, and a wolf leapt into the room. Covered with twigs and leaves, as though he had penetrated the underbrush with his long nose, he panted heavily, his sides heaving. His paws left mud and smears of blood on the floor.
“Oh, NO!” he gasped. “A Grandmother!” He looked back out the door, where someone was coming after him. They could hear the shouts and stamping of someone coming through the woods.
“Calm down,” Maven said. “I’m not going to eat you. What’s wrong?”
The wolf turned to go back out.
“No, wait. Climb into bed.” Maven looked at the nightgown and the bonnet on the peg. Fairy tale people were pretty easily fooled, but surely not that easily. She threw the nightgown over his head and tied the bonnet over his ears. “Don’t wag your tail.” She threw the cloak over him too. Not too bad if they didn’t actually see him. “Roll over.”
“I’m not a dog.” The wolf growled.
“You’ll be dog food if they catch you. Shut up. Look sick.” Maven turned to face the fireplace. “All right, Hut. Make it dark and musty in here, and make a kettle of whatever kind of bad smelling stuff they use for medicine around here. I don’t want anyone chopped up on my watch.”
“I prefer to be called Cottage.” The walls sounded peevish.
“All right, Cottage, you can be the freaking Taj Mahal as long as you do what needs to be done. Fiona would not have gone to this much trouble just to aggravate me.”
“Don’t count on that.” A brownish smell began to bubble from the kettle, an herb that seemed vaguely familiar, but Maven couldn’t place it.
Before she could ask the cottage, the door, having latched itself again, shook with the blows of pounding fists.
Maven leaned heavily on her cane and made her voice croak like a frog. “Who’s there? I’m just an old crone here, go away.”
The door rattled with the heavy blows, shaking the latch loose again. Three hulking woodcutters came in, axe handles in hand.
“Where are you, Wolf?” He saw Maven leaning on her cane. “There he is now.” He grabbed her by her shawl, which came off, exposing her iron gray hair and her face.
“My, what small ears you have.” he exclaimed, pulling on one of them.
“Must be why you are shouting,” Maven said. She pushed against him to no avail. She stomped on the instep of his hobnailed boot, but it only hurt her foot.
“And what small eyes you have.” he said, turning her face between his thumb and forefinger.
“Big enough to see your face and remember it,” Maven said, her look being dark enough to kill if he had been bright enough to see it.
“And your nose isn’t long at all.” He began to look truly perplexed.
“It’s long enough to smell herbs cooking in a sick house.” Maven shook herself loose. “Now if you don’t want to be in the bed at your house, you’d better get on out of here.” Then kicking her self mentally for having a big mouth, she saw that they hadn’t seen the wolf in the bed at all.
“Can’t have a wolf running around, eating helpless grandmothers.” He stepped to the bed, his axe ready to fall and his cronies right behind him. “It’s for your own protection.”
“No!” Maven stretched herself up to her full height, drew in a deep breath, and pointed her cane at the woodcutters. Tulip had said she could turn anyone into a frog for self-protection, so she could do it to protect someone else.
She gathered her anger and forced it through the cane so that green sparkles flew out the end.
By the time the sparkles settled, three bewildered frogs sat on the floor beside their axes, one of which fell, narrowly missing the bed. The bed had seen it coming though, and dodged.
Maven shooed the frogs out, keeping their axes for future reference. She stacked them into a corner where they became a mop, a broom, and a pitchfork.
Thanks” she said to the Cottage.
Certainly,” it replied, less coldly than before.
“All right, you, get up.” Maven shook the wolf’s shoulder, only to feel it quivering. “You’re safe now, from the frogs.” She untied the bonnet and helped the wolf out of the nightgown. “How did they get on your trail? You must have done something to get their attention.”
“Humans. It’s always the wolf at the door; never mind what they do to us.” The wolf growled, slinking away from her towards the door. Yet he was afraid to go out.
Maven thought he looked pitiful, wavering. She dipped water out of the bucket into a bowl and set it on the floor. “Here, at least drink something and rest.”
“You aren’t afraid that I will eat you?” The wolf said. His legs shook, on the verge of collapse.
“You weren’t planning to, were you?” Maven said.
He slunk over to the bowl and lapped noisily until the bowl was dry.
Maven sat back in the rocker. She swirled the tea leaves again to listen to the wolf’s story. It was a different perspective, film noir, and at a 24-inch eye level, but it was clear he was a sheep in a wolf’s body.
“You are obviously a witch. Are you going to turn me into a frog too?” the wolf asked finally. “I’d probably be better at being a frog.” He laid his chin on his paws. “At least people wouldn’t be afraid of me.”
“Actually, I’m a fairy godmother. On vacation.”
What would a wolf wish for?
“That explains the brambles around the cottage.” He began to chew at the brambles in his paws. “I thought I would never get through. I don’t remember this cottage being here before.”
“That’s magic for you.” Maven shrugged. “Now, you rest here tonight. I’d be glad of the company.” She spoke to the kettle, and the medicine smell disappeared. She made more tea, and when a plate of meat appeared on the table, she laid it on the floor by the wolf. After he had eaten, he curled up by the hearth and went to sleep.
Maven moved closer to the fire as well, her legs cold and shakier than the persona warranted. She was so tired.
She picked up the bit of gossamer that had been her shawl before the woodcutter grabbed it and stretched it around her bare arms.
o wonder she was cold. Her hemline had crept up at least a foot and her sleeves had disappeared. She tugged the rags down, making them slightly less ragged, and much warmer.
What had happened to her gossamers?
She had used her energy, her anger, to transform the frogs. Now she could see why she had to be careful. It hadn’t seemed like all that much energy, but the adrenaline pumping through her was hers, not the energy available in the cottage. She turned the rocker towards the fire.
She was very tired now, and finally feeling warm again, she drifted off into a nap.

Review: If you believe using magic is easy, think again!

No, really. Think again.  In Maven Fairy Godmother, Ms. Babb gives readers a hearty, fun, humorous adventure about magic, fairies, being a godmother, and so much more.

Maven, the star of our show, is down on her luck, struggling, and unsure about things, until a new job turns things around. Is it in a good way? Well, perhaps, and perhaps not, depending on the situation.  Maven learns that things aren't always as they seem, and that magic, and her job, comes with a high price.

The writing is great, the plot is well done and I'd love to be in the imagination of the author for a day, because this book really grabbed me and I was impressed with her well done the world building is.  I'm in tune with the author's voice and let's just say this won't be my last read by Ms. Babb.

Charlotte began writing when she could hold a piece of chalk and scribble her name–although she sometimes mistook “Chocolate” for “Charlotte” on the sign at the drug store ice cream counter.

She has studied the folk stories of many cultures and wonders what happened to ours. Where are the stories are for people over 20 who have survived marriage, divorce, child-rearing, education, bankruptcy, and widowhood?

VBT: Inside Out, Amy Lee Burgess

Hello, and welcome to my stop on the Inside Out tour!  I have the author, Amy Lee Burgess on the blog for a guest post, plus I'm sharing my review of Inside Out!  I hope you'll help the author feel welcome and leave a comment, show some love! :)

I will now stand aside and turn the blog over to our guest today!

I’d like to introduce you to the main characters you’ll meet in my novel, Inside Out.  They are all members of the Great Pack, a race of wolf shifters, and this is the fourth novel in the series The Wolf Within.  This novel takes place in the small fictional town of Willoughby, Massachusetts, home to the Mayflower pack.  Something is wrong in the pack and Stanzie, in her role as Councilor Jason Allerton’s Advisor, is sent to investigate.  What she finds will change everything about her life.

Constance “Stanzie Newcastle  - Stanzie is a blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty who thinks her nose is too big. Her fashion passion is shoes. She never wears the same pair twice in a row and has been accused of trying to fill the empty spaces in her life with shoes.  She plays professional level harp, but hasn’t played since the deaths of her first bond mates, Grey and Elena.  She works as an Advisor to Councilor Jason Allerton and has an uncanny knack for unearthing buried secrets – sometimes endangering herself in the process.  Her wolf is different than the other shifters’ wolves – more childlike and stubborn.  She is deeply in love with Liam Murphy but afraid to tell him.   In this novel, Liam has gone back to his home in Dublin and Stanzie is afraid of what the future holds for them.

Liam Murphy is Irish and handsome and hell. He possesses infinite patience, but harbors a dark past that he hasn’t quite been able to overcome. Forest brown eyes, dark blond hair, his smile is his best feature. He and Stanzie are bond mates, but because of the circumstances of their bonding and his past experience with a fickle bond mate, he isn’t quite sure where he stands with Stanzie.  As a result, he can be distant and frustratingly moody. He’d do anything for Stanzie, even leave her if he thought she’d be happier without him.

Scott Charest is the current Alpha male of Mayflower which also happens to be Stanzie’s birth pack.  Originally from Darkhunt in Rhode Island, he left his pack to bond with Faith.  Scott is gorgeous but doesn’t flaunt it with dark hair and uncanny grey eyes.  His sense of humor is razor sharp and he can be an enigma at times – some might say a real asshole, but he knows how to pour on the charm. He and Faith have a very unusual “how we met” story that even he is not quite sure he believes.

Faith Newcastle is the current Alpha female of Mayflower and Stanzie’s cousin.  Their mothers were twins.  She closely resembles Stanzie except her eyes are dark brown and her nose is smaller.  Pregnant, and scared because her pack is talking about replacing her as Alpha for no reason, she seeks out her cousin who has Great Council connections, to help figure out what is wrong with Mayflower.  Her fashion passion is lacy underthings which no one gets to see but Scott.

Alan Perrault is the youngest adult member of Mayflower.  Sandy haired with blue eyes, he is adorable and shy.  He is old enough to have begun the initiation of his wolf, but does not want to shift with either of the two mentors he is being pressured to accept in the role. The pampered prince of the pack, he is bewildered and hurt when his pack turns against him and tells him he needs to find a bond mate and leave Mayflower.  Stanzie used to babysit him when he was nine and she was twenty, but twelve years later could Stanzie become the mentor he needs to bring out his wolf for the first time?

Jason Allerton is one of the most influential members of the Great Council which oversees the entire Great Pack.  Tall, dark, dignified, and blue-eyed, he is always perfectly groomed, Jason uses his power as a Councilor to help people in whom he sees hidden potential.  Stanzie and Murphy are two of his latest examples.  His bond mate went incurably insane after their son was stillborn and over the years he has taken a series of mistresses – usually powerful women who serve on Regional Councils around the world or Alpha females of larger packs.  But secretly does he wish he could have someone who wants to be a more permanent fixture in his life? Will he ever find her?

Kathy Manning is a member of the New England Regional Council and Jason Allerton’s latest mistress.  She is adept at getting her way with a smile and a refusal to back down.  Petite, she resembles an elfin princess with pixie short brown hair and blue-grey eyes. She has adopted Stanzie as a surrogate daughter much to Stanzie’s consternation.  Kathy loves to bake and cook and favors the ones she loves with her special recipes.

Each of these characters plays a role in what happens within Mayflower – some more directly than others.

Without Murphy as her partner this time, will Stanzie be able to solve the mystery?  I hope you’ll read the book and find out.

BLURB:  There's no place like home...or is there?

When Stanzie is asked to investigate her birth pack- Mayflower--she isn't prepared for what she finds.

No one respects the Alphas and the newest adult member of the pack is being encouraged to leave. Why? To make matters worse, the men are dangerously intent on mating and shifting with her.

How far will the pack she thought she knew go to get what they want? Without her bond-mate, Liam, Stanzie must face this alone and, barely ahead of threat of violence, must solve the mysteries, and fast.

Excerpt:

Alan looked at me and panic flooded his silver blue eyes. “Stanzie.” My name was a horrified plea.

I could see the ghost of a wolf’s muzzle beneath his mouth. He held out a hand and recoiled when he saw the dark fur on his palm.

“Take off your clothes, Alan,” I urged, but he stood there, transfixed. I hastily unbuttoned his plaid shirt and pushed it off his shoulders. “Help me,” I cried as I tugged at his sleeve.

“I don’t know what’s happening to me,” he whispered. His body gave a bone crunching shudder and he stared at Faith and Scott’s wolves, terror etched across his face. The wolves waited together, shoulder to shoulder. It was a damn good thing I hadn’t shifted myself. Poor Alan was clueless.

I fumbled with the button on his fly and then the zipper. His throat rippled and he threw back his head and howled. The noise nearly scared the shit out of me, but I somehow managed to get his zipper down and then I pushed him onto his ass so I could pull his jeans off. He was no help at all, caught in the throes of the first emergence of his wolf. His body morphed in and out of focus. It was like trying to undress someone by strobe light and I had to shut my eyes so I wouldn’t lose my concentration. Alan whimpered and whined. Shifting was painful sometimes--especially when we fought it and he was. He didn’t know how to relax into the chaos and let it flow. He still struggled for control, for a way to reason out the process, and that was impossible. Shifting did not make sense. It just happened.

“Let go. Alan, just go with it,” I coached in a quiet voice as I sat as near as I could to him. He writhed on the pine needles and screamed as his bones shifted beneath his skin. “It hurts less if you just let go.”

“Stanzie!” My name turned into an anguished howl and just when I had begun to get scared, it happened. Alan blinked out of this plane and when he blinked back in, he was shifted.

His wolf was gorgeous. Dusky black with ice-blue eyes. A touch of gray at the tips of each paw. Big too. Bigger than Scott’s gray wolf. He rolled to his feet and sprawled onto his face when he tried to walk. Two legs to four was a bitch for some people. It had never fazed me, but Grey told me it had taken him half an hour to figure out how the hell to walk the first time he’d shifted. I grinned to remember the story and reached out to pat Alan’s wolf on the head. He whined at me.

“Get up and walk. Four legs are fun,” I told him. I was on my hands and knees now, so we could look eye to eye. If he got up, that is. Faith’s wolf pranced over and nudged him with her dainty muzzle. He whined again and she gave a coughing bark. In wolf speak she told him to get off his ass.

Scott’s wolf approached me and stared at me so hard I knew he tried to tell me something, but I couldn’t figure out what. Then it hit me. Duh. I was still in human form.

I stood up so I could strip off my jeans and t-shirt. Scott’s wolf waited impatiently. Alan’s wolf had gained his wobbly feet but seemed stuck in one position. When Faith’s wolf nudged his back end with her nose, he promptly fell over again and I snickered. Alan’s wolf gave me a reproachful look and I patted his head in apology. Scott’s wolf moved behind me and bumped the back of my knees so hard I fell over. Alan’s wolf wheezed with lupine laughter. “At least I can walk on all fours,” I muttered. Naked, I crawled away a few feet to give myself space for shifting. Only nothing happened.

Review: I found Inside Out to be an intriguing book. It's got a mix of paranormal and mystery, and I enjoy the author's voice. One thing I didn't realize when i picked this book for review was that it's apparently part of a series. That being said, I didn't find it too difficult to follow along, though at times there's things I wasn't sure of.   The main character, Stanzie is very interesting and a strong lead character.  She's one that seems to get into a bit of trouble everywhere she goes, but despite that and despite her flaws, she's still strong and unique.

I enjoy a good book about wolves, and Inside Out is a fun, unique, different spin, and it has a great blend of suspense, paranormal and romance. There are some sexual situations I could have done without, but for the most part, everything else in the story had an integral reason and seemed to fit the book.

This is my first time reading a book by Ms. Burgess, and I can say that I'm certainly curious for more.

Author Bio:

Amy Lee Burgess wrote her first ghost story at age ten. Born in New England, she has also lived in New Orleans and Houston, survived fires, floods, hurricanes, divorce and the premature cancellation of several of her favorite television shows. Turning her back on such shocking betrayals, she is now writing about ghosts, vampires, and other paranormal things and is much happier for it.

Storm Goddesses's Top Picks of 2012

It's been a great reading year for me in 2012. With reviewing, I've been introduced to many books I may not have discovered otherwise, plus I've visited with favorite authors that I know and love when it comes to their books.

Now, I read 200+ books per year, so it's going to be difficult to pick a few that really stood out, but I'm going to do my best. The order I post these books in are in no particular order. So, let's get this list started!

1. While You Were Dead- CJ Snyder

I can't get enough of romantic suspense, and While You Were Dead was an amazing addition to the genre. When one woman's dead lover shows up alive, things turn out quite....well, interesting. But it's not an easy reunion, for there are people out there to get them. I was up late reading this book, and while I haven't read anymore from the author yet, I do have some in the TBR pile that I can't wait to jump into.  Excellent, thrill ride.

2.Barefoot Season- Susan Mallery.

Susan Mallery is a go to author for me. Romance, emotion, and sometimes, a test of friendships. Barefoot Season was no exception....the book stole my heart and the pages flew. You can't go wrong with a Susan Mallery book, plain and simple.

3. The Cowboy and the Princess- Lori Wilde

Come on, a princess in disguise? Just wanting a normal life! Yeah, sold me. LOVE IT!  One of my favorite Lori Wilde books, hands down. Keepers shelf!

4. Sparks- Sharon Horton.

I don't know where to begin with this one....other than WOW. This was my first time reading a book by Sharon Horton, and I was highly impressed.  I think I literally was up all night reading this one, and I have a 3 year old son that wasn't happy with me the next day when I was pretty much nodding off after no sleep. Was it worth it? Absolutely. I was blown away by this story. Touching, emotional, and wonderful. The title is very fitting, as there are sparks between the hero and heroine, and the conflict that keeps them apart has the power to make anyone cry, but root for them as well. I can't recommend this book enough. I loved it.

5. Out of the Storm- Allie Harrison

Suspense, and a woman that can't remember her life. The tension is ON in this story!  With so many twists and turns, and a bit of a paranormal element, I couldn't put this book down. Riveting characters, tons of mystery, and a HEA that is a challenge in the making. Intense. But wow, what a book. I've never read a book but this author before, but you can bet I'm hooked after reading this one.

6. The Cowboy Singer- Paula Tiberius

I got this for review from a book tour. Once I read the blurb, I was sold. I'm a sucker for singers featured as a hero or heroine.  Jimmy Wick is one of the sweetest heroes! He's a big star, and he's got a lot of personal issues, but when he meets April, he is utterly smitten. April has a few issues of her own, and doesn't want to get involved, but how can she not fall for this sweet man? The story follows their lives as things happen and they end up falling so much in love. Very wonderful story with tender moments and smiles.

7. Deliver The Moon- Rebecca J. Clark.

Wow. A second chance story that captivated me. The writing, the plot, the humor, the love and the emotion. Everything was so well blended together and I couldn't get enough.  With bittersweet moments, and a great subplot with two secondary characters, I fell in love with this story.  You want a book with lots of angst, but a great happily ever after? Right here, baby, right here.

8. Shot Through The Heart- D'Ann Lindun.

From page one, I knew I was in for a ride. I was right.  Non stop action, heart pounding suspense, and a villain that is terrifying and made me so sad at the same time. I was literally at the edge of my seat, biting my nails, awaiting the next step. Ms. Lindun did an amazing job with this story.

9. A Deadly Love- Jannine Gallant

Eerie. That's what I have to say. Right from the start.  Ms. Gallant sure knows how to hook readers, and that started A Deadly Love. A town in the midst of a serial killer, only gets more tense as the killings keep happening. Can we say heartpounding? Yup. This was one that I read a night...oops...and I had to check the doors and jumped at every little noise...Chilling, riveting read.

10. Barefoot in the Rain- Roxanne St Claire.

You want to talk about angst? Here it is. Jocelyn Bloom was once on the verge of finding love with her best friend, but when a terrible incident happens, she flees.  She's brought back home because of scandal, and things aren't as they once were....This is a story about forgiveness, because the one person she can't forgive has changed forever. The subject of this book may be touchy for some, but Ms. St Claire does a beautiful job executing the plot and putting in some heightened emotions. I think this has to be my favorite book by her now. I can't wait for the next installment of the Barefoot Bay Series.

Review: Designs on Haley

Title: Designs on Haley
Author: Nita Wick

Publisher: Siren-Bookstrand

Genre: Contemporary romance

Length: 54.357 words

Reviewer: Nikki

Review Rating: 4.5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Blurb: Michael Flannery is the kind of man every woman dreams of—tall, handsome, intelligent, successful, and fiercely protective of those he loves. The talented architect has two goals: become a partner at Miller Engineering and Design, and find Miss Right.

Haley Preston has two goals as well: start a new life, and learn not to be such a gullible idiot. The rich, beautiful interior designer has been duped and used. Never again. She has sold her immensely successful business in New York and moved back to Tennessee to rebuild her life.

Sexual chemistry ignites an undeniable desire the moment they meet. Haley fights her attraction, but Michael will not be dissuaded. No one will interfere with his Designs on Haley.

Will Haley's secrets tear them apart? Can Michael banish the ghosts of Haley's past? Is lust enough? Or does his blueprint for the future require true love?

Review:  Have you ever been so hurt that you run from everything? Bottle up the emotions of love and trust, keep a wall so high that no one can get in? It happens to the best of us. Sometimes we don't know what to do other than run. Haley Preston had the whole world at her fingertips at one time, until a betrayal shattered everything and sent her into hiding.  Designs on Haley is a woman's journey to finding her way back to life, and love again.

To be honest, I thought Haley was never going to trust, and open up. I understand completely the sting of a batrayal by the ones you considered close friends and loved ones, but Haley was shielding herself from everything. She kept a cold demeaner to men, ensuring that her heart stay guarded. A stubborn, but loveable man is about to change everything. When Haley meets Michael, things change, slowly but surely. Haley's desires and dreams are awakened once again. But until she faces her past, she won't be able to be set for the future.

Michael can be overbearing sometimes, but I know that he has Haley's best interests at heart. Little by little, he cracks the ice that surrounds Haley's emotions and heart. He knows which buttons to push, but he knows what she needs.  He helps Haley to become alive again, instead of just living.

With humor, heart, and warmth, Designs on Haley delivered a heartwarming story of love. I was so happy to see Haley making a change for herself and actually allow some happiness in her life. I finished this book in just a couple of hours. The characters are very well crafted, really drawing the reader into their situations. The writing is well done, with such a passion and inspiration, not to forget the witty dialoge sprinkled throughout the pages.

I enjoyed this book so much. Haley becomes a different woman in the course of this story, and I rooted for her the entire time. Michael brings out the best in her, and she does the same for him. If you enjoy contemporary romances, I recommend Nita Wick's Designs on Haley. I will be looking for more books by this fantastic author.

2012 Debut authors to Watch

Are you serious? It's nearing the end of the year already? Someone tell me, quick...have we gone through a time warp?

Well, today I want to talk about some authors that have debuted this year that have really grabbed my attention. The list is in no particular order, and  I'm hoping for great year for all of the authors next year.

DISCLAIMER:  I'm going to be honest here. Some of these authors I do call my friend. But just because I'm friends with them doesn't mean I'm not being truthful about how I feel about their books.  Some of them I've become friends with because I worked with them for a blog tour, a review, or in a crit group as a writer. In fact, until this post went live, I haven't let on to any of the top ten that they were in this. It will come as a surprise to them when I send a link about this post. I don't play favorites, I just want to share with the world some of my favorite debut authors from the year, and some of them happen to be friends of mine.  I do hope if you haven't already, you check some of these books out because they really made my year.

Thank you.

1. Jennifer Bernard-

Hot firemen! Oh my! These scorching books are delicious, funny, and engaging! I first picked up a Jennifer Bernard book for review- The Fireman Who Loved Me. . To say that I totally enjoyed this book is an understatement! I LOVED IT! DEVOURED IT!  Then I found Hot For Fireman, and just wow!  Ms. Bernard has me hooked. There's also One Fine Fireman, which I have, but haven't read yet, and I'm looking forward to January 2013, when Sex and the Single Fireman comes out.  You want some fun, contemporary reads? Don't miss these. Seriously.

2. D'Ann Lindun.

Some of you may know that I'm also an author, and I've known of D'Ann's work long before she was published through crit groups. I was hooked back then and I wondered when she was going to get her day in the sun. Well, this year, it's finally happened! I love her contemporary western suspense stories. So full of emotion, heat, suspense, and so much more. You can tell her passions for horses through her stories.  While this year has been amazing for D'Ann, I think next year readers will be introduced to more amazing stories from her.

3. Christine Warner

Christine's debut, Some Like it in Handcuffs, a light contemporary suspense book, came out in March and it blew me away. What a fun book! I seriously had moments where I couldn't stop laughing, because of the witty humor between Sunny and Judson. These two are PERFECT for each other. This is one of those stories I can turn to again and again when i need a good comfort read, because it's bound to cheer me up.

Christine's second book out this year, Two Timing The Boss, is another sassy book. This one is contemporary and it features twin sisters that have a strong bond and leads one to go out of her way to help the other sister. With the same fun, witty charm that she had in her debut book, Christine Warner stole my heart again. My only comment for Christine is to write faster! I need another fix! :)

I can't wait to see what 2013 has in store for fans of Christine Warner.

4. Brenda Dyer.

Love vampires? Some may think the genre is over saturated, but I think Brenda has a new spin on the vampire tales. Love's Prophecy came out early this year, and I can't wait to see what else Brenda has in store for her fans. She's one of the sweetest, fun authors and I'm hoping for a big year in 2013 for her.

5. Rionna Morgan

I got a request to review Rionna's debut release, The Wanting Heart, a romantic suspense novel  this year. What a story!  Suspenseful, eerie, and captivating, i stayed up far too late, but couldn't stop reading. Rionna has asecond book out, which I have for reading, and I can't wait. I think she is an author to watch if you love a good romantic suspense.

6. Molly Cannon.

I saw Ain't Misbehaving for review, and I snatched it. It sounded like a cute story, and I was right. I was intrigued by the characters, the charm, and the great plot of this story. I think the next book by Molly comes out in April of next year, but it's just so far away!  I think that Molly is going to be a sensation in the contemporary romance genre. There's something about this authors voice and style that really appeals to me. I can't wait to see what 2013 brings.

7. Babette James

I got to read Clear as Day through a blog tour. Wow. What a story! It's  a friends to lovers story, which always intrigue me, and it definitely delivered.  What's next for Ms. James in 2013?  I don't know, but I sure can't wait to see!

8. Margie L. Miller.

If you haven't read Ever Together, you're missing out. What a beautiful love story. Katy and Derrick are from two different worlds, but they really care for one another.  I love how the characters are portrayed, and Katy, while not perfect, and she has her flaws, really stood out.  Marie L. Miller really grabbed my attention with this book and I want to know when another book is going to be relased!

9. Kristine Cayne.

Romantic suspense, a hot actor hero....Yeah, I was sold.  I happened to see a shared post on Facebook about Kristine's debut book, Deadly Obsession and rushed to buy it.  I posted a review for it on the blog because I had to let people know how incredible this book is! Kristine has gone and released a few more books this year, and i think she's going to be one of those household names fairly soon. I see Kristine sharing various books on Facebook, so not only is she a great author, she helps to spread the word about other books, too.

10. Kristina Knight

I got to read What A Texas Girl Wants via a virtual book tour, though I had already pre ordered the book. What a fun story! Kristina has released two more books after that already. The Saint's Devilish  Deal, which is another book I read, and newly released, What a Texas Girl Needs. There's just something about books set in Texas that gets to me. Kristina's characters are well thought out, the plots are fun and exciting, and they make for some great reads. What does 2013 have in store for this fresh author?

VBT: On The Rim Of Love

BLURB:

Maggie Robin has been dating the irresistibly good-looking, successful Jeffrey Preston for two years. But when Jeffrey proposes marriage a week after Maggie's college graduation, she is no longer sure if she wants to marry a workaholic TV producer.

Her doubts culminate when during a ski trip to British Columbia, Maggie meets Taylor Denton, a handsome, free-spirited big mountain skier who is the complete opposite of Jeffrey. It does not take Maggie long to realize that she has fallen in love with Taylor and she decides to break off her engagement with Jeffrey. But just when she thinks she has found the love of her life, an ill-fated misunderstanding tears Maggie and Taylor apart.

A week later, Maggie is told that Taylor has died in a tragic ski accident; yet, her heart refuses to believe in Taylor's death. When Maggie returns to Taylor's native town, she learns that Taylor is indeed alive, but has been seriously injured. Resolved to bring her lover back to life Maggie stands by Taylor's side, convincing him to embrace life again.

EXCERPT: “So you are dead set on skiing the Needle Eye?” asked Maggie after Hannah and Shawn had left.
“Yes,” Taylor’s voice was firm.
There is no way of talking him out of this, Maggie thought, seized by the icy hollowness that the mere sight of the couloir instilled in her.
“Maggie, you have to understand what this means to me.” Taylor placed his arm around her shoulders in an attempt to reassure her. “It’s something that I’ve strived to do my entire life, ever since I can remember myself.” Taylor flashed a fiery glance at the mountains. “I want the whole world to see that it is possible to ski the Needle Eye, but even more so, I want to know what it feels like to ski this line.”
“But didn’t you say that your grandfather already skied it?” asked Maggie, almost sobbing. “Why do you have to do it again?” Her voice was barely audible as her glance traveled to the steep, saw-toothed couloir: ‘passage or corridor’ was the meaning of the foreign word that she remembered from her French lessons, but she had learned its other meaning from Taylor who told her that the French word had been adopted into English to define terrain akin to that of the Needle Eye. At first, she briefly wondered why the French word had been recruited – was it because it sounded more glamorous than the English alternatives? Now, she thought that perhaps it was because of its primary meaning: “a passage.” Her time with Taylor in the mountains had shown her that skiing off-piste terrain was far more than just skiing - it taught one to face one’s weaknesses and fears - it was indeed a passage to finding one’s inner strength. Still, she could not suppress the shivers that prickled her back at the mere sight of the Needle Eye.
“My grandfather skied the Needle Eye forty years ago. He was the only one out of the entire expedition to climb all the way to the mountaintop and his descent was not witnessed by anyone. The following day, he flew on a helicopter with his friend and took several pictures of the ski tracks that he had left – you would think that should be proof enough, and for a long time it was. But a few years ago, some of the lesser skiers…” Taylor drew a deep breath to steady himself. “Began implying that the photographs were fake, arguing that since no one else has tried to ski the Needle Eye again, it’s impossible to ski it – there was even an article about it in one of the ski magazines. I understand that they are saying this out of spite and their own limitations, but that still does not change the fact that they are insulting my grandfather’s legacy, and I won’t stand for that. I know he skied that line, and so does everyone else who matters, but I want to put the doubts to rest once and for all.”
In Taylor’s eyes Maggie saw unshakable resolve that reminded her why she fell in love with him in the first place, but now she understood that this part of his personality also meant that he would pursue his dreams regardless of the danger that they might entail.

As a sophomore in college, Samantha Reddick meets Tony Amaya, a brokenhearted young man, whose written words she keeps as a memento of a weekend long affair. The words, written on the back of a paper placemat, become her only solid ground during a tumultuous decade that nearly destroys her, leaving her searching for answers at the bottom of the bottle. Haunted by guilt and the constant menace from a man she once loved, Samantha searches for Tony and inserts herself into his life through an online friend request to his wife, Gwen. Mutual curiosity opens the door to an unexpected friendship that becomes the catalyst of an inner battle between the better woman Samantha longs to be, and the Samantha who despises her own gaze.

Excerpt:
Tony didn’t look nervous at all. Meanwhile I was awash in uneasiness at the prospect of bringing him into my dorm.

The story, all I want is the story and to find out what motivates such passionate writing, that’s all. Just the story…

Liar…

I felt shaky while he walked. In contrast, his breathing was even as though he was so comfortable with the situation. I suddenly wondered if this particular situation was familiar to him.

We took the stairway to the second floor. Our footfalls echoed loudly, the sound joined only by the faint buzzing of the overhead fluorescent lights.

I unlocked the door with trembling hands that jangled the keys. Somehow, I found the light switch and chased the shadows away, revealing a second hand living room set on cheap flat carpeting. I peeled off my denim jacket and threw it across a chair in the kitchen nook. When I turned, I was surprised to see him leaning against the door, held back by uncertainty.

I held the paper placemat between us like an amulet to ward off his intensity. “Do you mind if I read it?”

He fixed his eyes on me and nodded before glancing away, his chin coming to rest on his chest.

I started reading. It was far more intense than I could have ever imagined. It was nothing but raw fury and passion, a determined declaration of love. It read of this girl that had become the center of his thoughts, the very core of his being. I could feel my heart breaking as I was overwhelmed with the strange notion that I wanted to be this Gwen of his. I wanted to know what it was to feel such passion, such love. Tears sprung in my eyes and I cried for him, for this fortunate girl…

For me...

He didn’t ask what was wrong right away. He simply stared just past my shoulder while I made a futile attempt to dispel a sob. I muttered that this was beautiful and he gave me a sad, crooked smile as a tear rolled off the corner of his eye before he turned his face away.

I don’t know what it was about that tear, but it made me go to him like a magnet to steel and place my hands on his face. His skin was burning. There was a little stubble that only made me too aware of his masculinity.

"Kiss me," I whispered into those confused brown eyes of his. "Just kiss me."

His hands found my wrists and his eyes stayed on mine. Need became a force as tangible as the strong winds that fuel a storm.

I knew he was thinking I was crazy. I knew he thought of all the reasons why he should stop this crazy bitch in heat and go away. Bloody hell, I was thinking I was crazy.

A tiny voice in my head was screaming all sorts of warnings but just when I felt rejection eating away at me, his eyes fell on my lips and after one breathless moment, he leaned down and kissed me.

Molten lead would have frozen my insides in comparison. I was trembling and when I felt his breath stutter, I opened my lips in invitation. He pulled away and a disappointed moan escaped my throat, allowing reason to slowly take root in my brain. I kept my eyes on his.

His hand held my face as delicately as a summer breeze. His thumb brushed away the tears I finally tried to blink away. His eyes seemed to glitter as they searched mine and time seemed to stop its endless march in perfect silence.

Was this wrong? I let out my pent up breath slowly in a sorrowful sigh as electricity crackled between us.

In one swift motion, his hands brought my face up at an angle and he kissed me so hard, I lost what little restraint I had left.

He loves someone else…

He loves her…

Stop this!

I felt weightless. His touch was firm yet gentle. The kiss grew needier and heat traveled down into my body, setting my abdomen aflutter. My hands found the flat planes of his chest and then ran down his sides to his hips. On their way back, they pushed his shirt up. His hot skin sent a pang of need that had my heart hammering in my ribcage.

My tickling fingers forced him to shift and pull away for a breath. I answered his smile with a lustful gaze as I brought his hands to the buttons of my uniform shirt.

His hands ventured over my abdomen and moved up to graze the underside of my breasts, making my head swim. I shrugged the shirt off and his t-shirt joined it on the floor within seconds.

We engaged in a stumbling waltz as we somehow made our way to my bedroom. Our clothes kept pooling on the floor, marking our passing like bread crumbs on an unknown trail. I was almost sick with need as the coarse hair of his chest made contact with my skin. When I felt him rigid on my thighs, I pulled hard on his neck, bringing him on top of me as he braced his fall with his arms on either side of me, never breaking from the kiss.

“Wait…” he panted. “I… um… I don’t have anything.”

It took a few seconds before I realized what he meant. Shame colored me a shade of red I thought would make me glow in the semi darkness. “It’s okay, I promise…” I said breathlessly.

He gave me a dubious look that I hoped to eradicate with more kissing. His lips found my throat, my face, my shoulder, and I curled driving my hips up to meet him. He was being gentle, too gentle, I thought in frustration, when all I wanted was for him to go right through me. I grabbed hold of his hips, and then thoroughly enjoyed the feel of the muscles on his back as I pulled him into me. The sudden fullness forced me to bite my lip to keep from crying out. It had been so bloody long…

“Kelly…” he whispered almost breaking the spell, but I was too far gone to care.

A thin wisp of rational thought told me he was probably thinking about someone else. I wondered if he called out Kelly only to remind himself that he wasn’t with the girl behind his writing. It didn’t matter. My body overrode my mind as he moved within me. I held on tighter, needing the closeness, if only physical.

…I’ll be no more than a transient thought in her mind, a small measure of time, insignificant. No more than a barely familiar set of notes to a song seldom remembered…

The lines of his writing flashed through my head as my breath grew shallower.

…No more can I feel the soft warmth of her kiss and its absence becomes me in the form of a living death…

All I could do was accept this moment and quell my own thirst for that kind of love with what little he offered me. The kind of love he obviously reserved for the girl from his writing.

His muscles grew taut under my touch while I held my breath as the inevitable rush of heat converged into my center from all corners of my body. I parted the kiss and screamed my ecstasy, burying my face into his chest while he grew impossibly large in me before collapsing, his own conclusion reached. We held onto each other, our breath ragged, both of us feeling each other’s tremors. If this was the one and only time I was to feel this way, then I’d go into the grave smiling to the high heavens.
