Review: Ava's Pleasure

Title: Ava's Pleasure

Author: Heidi Lynn Anderson

Publisher: Silver Publishing

Genre: Erotic contemporary romance

Reviewer: Tabitha

Review Rating: 4 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Blurb:  Of all the sex clubs, she had to walk into his. How was Ava Cullen supposed to know her prim and proper aunt was part owner of the premier sex club in Miami and a top-notch Dominatrix? When she stumbled into club Paradise and came face to face with her dream man, she had a feeling she stood on the precipice of something life changing.

Navy SEAL Logan Turner always knew he needed more out of life than the next mission. That's why he opened Paradise with his best friend Julie. It didn't hurt that he could reap the benefits of owning a sex club. That was until a sexy, doe-eyed woman walked in, making his control slip for the first time ever.

REVIEW:  Ava's your typical prim and proper Catholic school teacher until she is fired from her job because she taught sex ed and  some of the students got pregnant. It's not really her fault but the school doesn't see it that way. Not sure where to turn she decides to visit her aunt who is only a few years older than her. And is shocked to find out she runs a sex club.

Logan is a sexy Navy Seal that co-owns the sex club with Ava's aunt. He finds himself fascinated with Ava's shyness and beautiful looks. Not to mention she is the woman that has haunted his dreams and kept him going when his missions got to be too much.

I took a chance reading this story because it really isn't what i normally read. But I was pleasantly surprised and glad I took the leap. This story was a very sexy and I do mean sexy read. But it's not for those that don't like a little bit of kinkiness with their romance. I found it to be a very quick but thoroughly enjoyable read. If you are an erotic romance fan then I would recommend this story.

Heidi Lynn Anderson really knows how to turn on the heat but still manages to keep it romantic. Anyone that says you can't have an erotic story and still have romance hasn't read this one. Kudos to you Heidi!

Happy Reading,

Review: The First Night

Title: The First Night

Publisher: Beachwalk Press

Genre: Contemporary erotic romance

Review Rating: 5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Blurb:  Can the last place she needs to be become the first night of her forever?

She planned to meet her coworkers for drinks and be home in a few hours. Getting drunk and staying out all night was not an option. Not for Kayla Dobbs. Going to a bar was already pushing her limits. Between her full-time job and night classes, there was no time to spare for a social life, and certainly no time for a relationship. But when she meets Gannon, the sexy bartender whose hypnotic eyes seem to follow her every move, she wishes things could be different.

Although Kayla doesn't recognize him, Gannon knows exactly who she is—she was the one girl in high school he'd always wanted but had been afraid to pursue. He's changed a lot since high school though, and maybe now he has a chance at making that dream come true.

As she breaks free from her self-induced lifestyle of studying and work, Kayla realizes that no matter how concrete her life plan is, sometimes it only takes one night, one person, to alter it forever.

Content Warning: contains descriptive sex and strong language

REVIEW:  This is a beautiful, sexy story about two people who knew each other in the past, and fate eventually brings them back together nine years later. It begins when Kayla Dobbs, a night time student and full time worker who doesn't have a lot of time to "let her hair down" goes out with her friend to let off some steam at the local bar "Night." She locks eyes with a handsome bartender and they immediately have sparks flying between them.  Kayla can't figure out where she has seen him before, but she senses that there is something very familiar about him. Gannon, is the bartender/ owner of "Night" and he knows who Kayla is right away. She is the one who has brought him back to his home town after nine years of partying and trying to forget about his high school "crush".

This book takes the reader on a journey of two people discovering what passion is like when it is shared by two people who mean something to one another. I loved this story from the beginning right through to the end. The author did a great job of creating a story with a sizzling romance and one that I didn't want to put down for even a minute! I loved the characters and was able to relate to Gannon and what he went through having feelings about  Kayla and thinking he wasn't good enough for her during school. Then going from being a "nerd" to a "hottie" and yet still having those insecure feelings inside of himself, wondering if he is good enough for Kayla.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves steamy sex scenes and a beautiful romance thrown in between. It is a fast read but full of characters who readers can relate to and will be fully entertained by through to the very end. Sidda Lee Tate is an author that I will surely be on the look out for in the future when I would like an entertaining book to read!

Review: The Monster of Fame

Title: The Monster of Fame

Author: Aimee Duffy

Publisher: Beachwalk Press

Genre: Contemporary romance

Heat Level: Spicy

Reviewer: Storm Goddess

Review Rating: 4.5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Blurb: Can the voice of an angel heal a tortured soul?

Annabelle MacIntosh enters a reality singing contest to save her family from their mounting debt. Miles Oliver, celebrity judge and the owner of the biggest record company in the UK, doesn't think she has what it takes. She sings like an angel, but when she performs all he can focus on is the terror in her eyes. It's a look he knows only too well. After the pressure of fame destroyed his wife, Miles swore he'd never let the same thing happen to anyone else. Driven by the guilt he's carried for years, Miles tries everything in his power to make sure Annabelle doesn't succeed, because he doesn't believe she'll survive it.

Annabelle needs that prize money, and she's determined to win it. As she fights to make it through each round of the contest, an attraction begins to develop between the two adversaries. The longer Annabelle remains in the competition, the deeper her attraction grows to the man who's trying to prevent her from reaching her goal. Can she convince Miles she's strong enough to fight the fame monster and win?

Review: A reality singing show, a woman trying out with more than one intent, and a man who sees right through her and fears for what is yet to come...

With a headstrong but somewhat vulnerable lead character, Annabelle is certainly someone i can relate to. She's strong willed and will do what it takes to help her family, but yet she has t his doubt and fear about her that causes Miles to wonder what would happen if she made it. it's not that she doesn't have talent.

Miles doesn't count on him desiring and falling for Annabelle the way he does. Though he's portrayed as a jerk at first, it's kind of an act. But there's a wall that Miles keeps up because of a tragedy in his past that still haunts him.

I very much enjoyed this book- the pacing is great, the writing is smooth, and I cared about the characters. The Monster of Fame is a fun, enjoyable book, one that I could not put down. Well done!

Release Date: November 16th, 2012
Genre: Urban fantasy

About the Author:
I live in Southwest Missouri with my super supportive husband and our three energetic young rascals. I work as an administrative assistant during the week. Now I get to add published author to my list of roles I play in life.
Being an author was not my first career choice. In my younger years I wanted to be a dancer, but dance lessons are expensive! I also wanted to be Dolly Parton from The Best Little Whore House in Texas. I could really belt out Itty Bitty Piss Ant Country Place, just ask my parents, or their former neighbors.
After a slew of other interesting job choices, I just could not shake the writing bug I picked up in high school. I started writing poetry and still write a poem whenever inspiration hits me. I also love to read, especially paranormal romances and urban fantasies. The love of reading is what spawned the desire to try my hand at writing a novel of my very own.
I love creating the characters and giving them their own personalities and voices. I have also come to enjoy writing fight scenes. My husband (the wonderful man that he is) will act them out with me so I know exactly how I need to show it to the audience. Call us crazy if you like, but it's really fun to act out a scene using a broom handle as a spear and a foam baseball bat as an axe.
I hope you enjoy City of the Gods: The Descendant. The second book of the trilogy is being edited and I’m working on the third and final book now. I love to hear from fellow authors and readers. Excerpt:
“Who did this?” Tristan asked quietly, almost more to himself than to Kat.
“Probably that bastard Ryan. He is going to pay for every last thing he demolished,” Kat replied, assuming Tristan was speaking about the chaos throughout the rest of the house. She stepped forward and looked around the room once more. It was then that she noticed the black flowers sitting on her dresser. Kat walked over and pulled the small white card from them. She opened the envelope to reveal a card with a beautiful picture of the same flower in white. Tristan came to stand behind her as she opened the card. It was a simple message, but one she would not soon forget.
I am coming for you.
Tristan plucked the card from her hand and reread it. Kat stood frozen in place, shocked and confused. Her mind raced with unanswerable questions. Who was coming for her? What did they want from her? Was this actually some sick joke Ryan was playing or was someone really coming to get her? Her stomach churned and her head began to pound. She doubled over in pain while fear of the unknown trespasser flooded her brain. It was all too overwhelming.
Kat hugged her arms around her stomach. Her legs gave out and she fell to her knees on the floor. A cold sweat broke on her forehead. Kat was almost glad when black spots started to swim in her vision. She tried to ask Tristan for help, but she could not find her voice. Dizziness engulfed her, and she felt herself begin to fall the rest of the way to the floor. Tristan caught her just before her head and the floor collided. She could barely hear his concerned voice calling her name as the blackness surrounded her.
“Katalina, open your eyes.” Tristan shook her a bit, hoping she would regain consciousness. Sabine and Vivian had heard the commotion, rushed into the room, and directly to Kat’s side. To Tristan’s great relief, Katalina’s eyes opened a crack, enough to see the intensely harsh gaze she gave him. Tristan looked to the girls, who looked equally surprised by her reaction.
“Katalina?” Tristan questioned.
“Leave her alone,” Katalina responded and her nearly black eyes closed once again.

Shattered Circle

JUST YOUR AVERAGE MEGA-WITCH. . . .

It’s tough being a modern woman, but Persephone Alcmedi has it worse than most. Being the prophesied Lustrata has kicked her career as a witch into high gear, and juggling a wærewolf boyfriend who is about to become king of his kind and a seductive vampire who bears her magical Mark isn’t easy either.

Still, Seph’s beloved foster daughter, Beverley, is causing more trouble than these two men put together. The young girl’s been playing with a magical artifact that’s far more dangerous than she realizes. Now Seph must summon help from a mystical being so potent that even vampires fear him . . . and the cost of his aid may be more than she’s willing to pay. Seph, Johnny, and Menessos face threats from all sides—and a few from within. Will the forces of destiny cement their tenuous supernatural union, or shatter it forever?

Excerpt:

There were many prophesies concerning the Lustrata. The one that the vampires were most concerned with claimed she was incredibly valuable to them. Because of this, they could not dare to kill her. But they could do much without killing her. The question was: What would interfere with her destiny, and what wouldn’t?

Menessos would know the most about it, so Goliath resolved to follow his Maker’s lead. “Dabbling in the destiny that Menessos, the witch, and the Domn Lup share is a hazardous pastime, Mero. I strongly suggest you stay the hell out of their way.”

Mero quoted the prophesy:
Lustrata walks,
unspoiled into the light.
Sickle in hand,
she stalks through the night
wearing naught but her mark and silver blade.
The moonchild of ruin, she becomes Wolfsbane.
According to my interpretation,” Mero concluded, “she must be marked.”

Menessos breathed deep. Releasing it, he said, “Your interpretation is bullshit.”

Mero’s brows rose in surprise.

Goliath struggled to keep a laugh from getting out.

“The Witch Elders Council will not stand for their Lustrata to be marked by the Excelsior,” Menessos said. “Would you risk a war?”

What would you do for the promise of paradise?
This story was a pretty good read. The sex was steamy and the premise was strong. The creatures in the story were those of nightmares. My favorite would be the zippers. Long black ghost like creatures that open big mouths to expose razor sharp teeth. The world was vibrant with peril around every corner. If you are a SyFy fan then you will probably enjoy this book.
Happy Reading,

Excerpt:
“‘Forgive?” he finally wheezed and Katherine was surprised he actually acknowledged that there was a wall between them. She forced her lips into something that was a cross between a tender smile and a wince.’”
“‘Come on, Dad. It’s not like you did anything bad. We just never really clicked. There are far worse relationships.’”
“‘The clearing of a phlegm-coated throat tugged the young woman from her thoughts. “Forgive?” Zane asked again.’”
“‘Kathy sighed and forced herself to squeeze the fingers that were too much like flesh-covered cushions. “You weren’t home. You had a lot going on at work. And you played jokes that I took the wrong way. Everything is in hindsight and we both know I was sensitive as a kid. I understand. Can’t we just forget about that?” Katherine’s voice was soft and rich, but it shook far more than she wanted it to. It had always been so easy for her to talk about him behind his back, to complain about how much he embarrassed her. But now everywhere she looked there were tubes running out of the arms that she’d wrestled with as a kid. The whir and buzz of the machines made Kathy’s jaw ache from clenching. The expression on Zane’s sagging face with too much forehead showed that he didn’t like her interpretation, but he relaxed deep into the mattress at her willingness to move on.’”
“‘But too soon a look out the window at the setting sun reminded her it was time to go. Kathy rose, kissed her father’s cheek, and said her soft goodbyes that had the pretense of being difficult. Maybe in some ways they were; after years of growing up in a blurred reality it was hard for her to tell anymore.’”
“‘When Kathy left, there was something on the visitor’s couch in Zane’s room to take her place, something that Kathy’s mother had kept in storage for years. It was almost the size of a toddler and was dressed in one of Kathy’s old dresses. Its tiny feet even had her old patent leather baby shoes. The plastic eyes were unfeeling, dark blotches in smooth plastic skin that stared directly across the room towards Zane. The setting sun cast eerie shadows over the synthetic, butchered hair that framed the artificial face.’”
“‘Zane tried to sleep, but even with his eyes closed he knew the toy was there looking at him. Somehow the little thing saw everything he had ever done and wanted to do, everything he regretted, every little thing at all. And it didn’t care about any of it. With his eyes still tightly shut, Zane’s good hand fumbled for the button to call the nurse. The box had slipped down under the covers and out of reach. If he opened his eyes to look for it he’d have to see the dear little girl gone wrong and all her features: the straight legs, un-skinned knees, and tidy little bows on scuffed shoes. But there would be no emotion and no hint of a smile. That was not how a child should behave. If anything, it was the demeanor of a killer.’”
“‘Stop, stop, stop! Zane screamed in his mind, his weakened heart bursting against his chest. His twisted mouth struggled to work as he focused on the sound of his breathing and opened his eyes.’”
“‘The bright lights had been shut off so he could sleep, though the curtains had been left open. Outside, the city lights twinkled in a cold rhythm. Zane’s gaze focused on the couch — the empty couch. His breathing went sharp and shallow, a raspy noise against the low hum of the room’s medical equipment. Cleanser mixed with the scents of decaying flesh and old woman’s face powder. There was a brief flash of memory from when he had caught his daughter patting the face of one of her favorite dolls with a puff borrowed from her grandmother. The thing’s hair had reeked for weeks afterwards and little particles of scented dust had shown up on furniture at the most inopportune times.’”
“‘Zane’s neck ached from not enough movement and he winced when he tried to turn his head. All he had to do was look down. The tainted perfume grew stronger and crawled right up his nostrils to the working cells in his brain. The soft outline of a ragtag cut hair was just barely visible in his peripheral vision.’”
“‘Inhumanly smooth plastic brushed up his arm. The molded fingertips were permanently curled and the seams of the plastic bit ever-so-lightly into his skin. “Daddy, I’m a good girl.” The voice was a soft whisper that was close to — but not the same — as his daughter’s. “I’ll be your little girl. I’ll sit with you.” A tight whine strangled out of his throat. It was worse than if the doll had wanted to kill him.

BlitZ: Phantom

Phantom
Laura DeLuca
The “Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. When her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their annual production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card.
Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva, and like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars—Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist.
Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents until Rebecca receives notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. Only when the mask is stripped away, will the twenty first century phantom finally be revealed.

Excerpt:
The orchestra tuned for its virtuoso, and Justyn stood ready. But no one else was ready for the magical performance he began. Beside her, Carmen was rambling on about something mundane. Rebecca elbowed her to silence so she could listen to the perfectly thrilling tenor. As she listened to the song unfold, the world around her started to slip away. Gone was the high school auditorium. Gone were the rowdy teenagers. The Gothic stranger on the stage had become the embodiment of Erik, and Rebecca watched him in all his dark glory, belting out his tormented love through the words of his song. And she was as breathless with wonder as Christine herself must have been when the masked stranger serenaded her in the candlelit labyrinth of the opera house. In that moment, Justyn wasn’t just portraying the phantom. Justyn was the phantom.
“Let the music touch your soul.
Let the darkness make you whole.
Do not fear what is unknown.
Your true path has now been shown.
Listen to the words I sing.
Embrace the peace that night will bring.”
As he continued to sing in his deep but somehow angelic voice, Rebecca found that she couldn’t tear her eyes away from him. With every line, her heart began to beat faster. She truly felt the arms of night wrapping her in a warm embrace. She could almost feel the hands of the phantom glide along her body as the words poured forth. The music caressed her. It possessed her—mind, body and soul. Each word left her longing, yearning for more.
She was gawking so obviously, it was hardly surprising when Justyn felt her eyes on him and steadily met her gaze. She realized her mouth was hanging open in stunned awe, and she quickly snapped it shut. His lips moved into just a small hint of a smile. He never took his eyes off her while he sang the final verse, making her cheeks flush to the point that she felt almost feverish. But it wasn’t embarrassment but excitement, arousal even, which was sending her mind spinning in so many directions.
When the song was over, and Rebecca had recovered just a hint of her composure, she couldn’t help but burst into a healthy round of applause. A few scattered people joined in, including Debbie and Carmen after she nudged them in the ribs. But only Miss King seemed to truly appreciate the brilliance of his talent as much as Rebecca did.
“That was amazing, Justyn!” the teacher gushed.
“Lord Justyn,” he corrected as he stepped down from the stage.
A few others complimented him as well, but he took in all in stride. In fact, his serious expression never faltered as he stepped down from the stage. He seemed almost bored, like it was all he could do to hold back a yawn, despite the smiles and words of encouragement.
But not everyone in the crowd was pleased as Justyn glided down the aisle, so ethereal in his dark garments that he still resonated the spirit of the Opera Ghost. Miss King might have been excited about the newest male addition to her cast after being limited for many years, but Tom and his group of boisterous companions glared at him as he passed them by. Jay sneered and tossed a balled up piece of paper in Justyn’s direction, but the Goth was quick, and caught it in his hand without missing a beat.
“I think you dropped something,” he said.
His speaking voice was no less melodic than his singing voice, but something about his tone made Rebecca shiver. He tossed the paper back at Jay, who was nowhere near as coordinated as Justyn. He practically fell off his seat in his efforts to catch it.
“Hey vampire,” Tom called when Justyn went to walk away. “Are you sure you can handle the competition?”
Justyn smiled, a cool, sarcastic half-smile, and crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you?”
Miss King didn’t notice the short confrontation, and Justyn vanished from the auditorium as quickly and mysteriously as he had appeared. Only Rebecca had noticed the very real tension between the two boys. She wondered if it was a bad omen for them to start off the production with hard feelings and envy. That could only lead to trouble. The kind of trouble that could end with someone getting hurt. The kind of trouble that Rebecca would do whatever it took to avoid.

Interview with Stacy Gail + Nobody's Angel Review

Thank you for coming by today! I have an interview with author Stacy Gail, and I'll be sharing with you all today my review for Nobody's Angel. Please help me welcome Stacy to the blog by leaving a comment and letting us know you were here!

Hi Stacy! Thanks for answering my questions! i LOVE  author interviews :)

Tell me about yourself, and your writing.

SG: Hi there! First, I’d like to thank you for allowing me to drop by and chat about my latest release, NOBODY’S ANGEL. It’s much appreciated!
Let’s see, about me…I’ve been described as Tigger on overdrive, or as that caffeinated squirrel in Hoodwinked. Either way, you get the picture, ha. As for my writing, it’s one of those things I’ve done my whole life. Whether on a laptop or with a pen and journal, words are my life!

How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?

SG: I’ve been writing since I redid all the Trixie Belden endings so that Trixie and Jim wound up kissing. :D As of this writing, I’ve had five projects published with Samhain and Carina Press. The fifth book, NOBODY’S ANGEL, just came out on January 21st! *bounces* I’ve been published in the romance subgenres of contemporary, futuristic/sci-fi, steampunk and paranormal.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?

SG: Oops, just answered this, didn’t I? ^_^ I will say this—my editors are wonderful at allowing me the freedom to explore various genres. I did a steampunk holiday romance for Carina Press in 2011 (CRIME WAVE IN A CORSET, now a finalist in the 2013 EPIC Awards), and a futuristic holiday romance for them in 2012 by the name of HOW THE GLITCH SAVED CHRISTMAS. From one extreme to the other, they’re open to whatever my imagination comes up with.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?

SG: Plotter, all the way.

What is a typical writing day like for you?

SG: I always try to average around 2K during my “writing days”, so I work in hour-long sprints. I find that if I put myself on a clock, I’m more focused.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?

SG: Oh, I read EVERYTHING! Currently I’m on a Lilith Saintcrow kick. I think she comes from my smart mouth-prone family tree. :D

What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?

SG: 2013 is slated to be the Year of the Nephilim! The Earth Angels series is officially complete, as I just finished the 4th and final book the first week in January. It’s not ready to send out yet, but with NOBODY’S ANGEL releasing this month, SAVAGE ANGEL releasing in February, and WOUNDED ANGEL releasing in May, I’m determined to get this last book, DANGEROUS ANGEL in before the end of the year. *crosses fingers*

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?

SG: I’d love to have something called psychometry—the ability to touch something and know its history. John Smith in Stephen King’s The Dead Zone was the ultimate psychometric talent, and was a talent that showed up in my first book to be published, ZERO FACTOR.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?

SG: Unicorn! :D

Tell us a little about your latest release.

SG: The Earth Angels series kicks off with NOBODY’S ANGEL, a story that explores the hidden—and nearly extinct—race of the Nephilim, human-angel hybrids living amongst us. The hero, Zeke Reece, is the descendant of an angel of death and trying to protect journalist Kendall Glynn from a malevolent spirit that might be the creepiest thing I’ve EVER created. Luckily Zeke’s got an excellent support system in Kendall, who has the strength and the will to get to the true heart of what’s behind the evil.

What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)

SG: Chocolate, in any form (except maybe cocoa powder *blegh*)

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?

SG: I don’t think I could, I’m too opinionated. :P But if I could choose a writing guru, I think I’d love to simply watch the writing process of J.K. Rowling. I’ve seen pictures of her storyboards, and have come to the conclusion that I will always be an amateur compared to a brain like that. O_O

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?

SG: Amelia Earhart, hands down. I’d like to know where/how she got her amazing motivation to believe she could do anything she wanted, at a time when that mindset hardly existed for women.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?

SG: I’m a figure skating coach when I’m not stuck under a laptop! You can probably catch me out on the ice when I’m not working on my next project.

If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?

SG: All the books I’ve read recently have been snapped up for movies! I suppose “Trance” by Kelly Meding would be a good one, as superheroes are big right now.

What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?

SG: Everyone in my family can sing, but not me. I redefine the term “tone-deaf”. *is sad*

SG: Favorite color?

Pink. <3 font="">

SG: Weather: Hot or cold?

Cold (ice skating, FTW!)

SG: Favorite place to read?

My bed, with a Do Not Disturb sign on the door (which everyone ignores *sigh*)

Favorite meal

SG: T-bone steak, medium rare, cracked-pepper rub, grilled over mesquite (and no, I’m not picky, why do you ask? :P)

Favorite non-alcoholic drink.

SG: Water (seriously, I love it!)

If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?

SG: Greece. I have at least two stories that need to take place there, so that’s definitely topping my bucket list.

Thanks so much for the interview. That was fun! :D

BLURB:
Book one in The Earth Angels

Investigative journalist Kendall Glynn is horrified when a friend and colleague signs off permanently during a live newscast, jabbing a pen into his jugular. Kendall's no expert, but judging by the strange white veil in the anchorman's eyes, she would swear he was a man possessed.

A descendant of the accursed Nephilim, Zeke Reece prowls San Francisco by night, keeping the city free from paranormal phenomena. But even he is no match for whatever malevolent force is behind a recent rash of murder-suicides. And when a beautiful tenacious reporter becomes the next target, Zeke has no choice but to stay close to her, until he can find the evil spirit and cross it over.

The closer Kendall gets to the truth, the more danger she's in. Fortunately, a sexy and mysterious masked stranger keeps swooping in to the rescue. Kendall's life depends on finding who or what is responsible for the killings, before it finds her.

Excerpt

“I can’t believe it…”

“There was so much blood.”

“What happened?”

Fragments of conversation hit Kendall Glynn from all sides, but the words were no more than an irrelevant buzzing in her brain. She was just as oblivious to the emergency vehicles scattered outside San Francisco’s top-rated KPOW TV station. Some of her colleagues were crying, while others spoke to police. The sea of people behind the yellow crime-scene tape all looked the same—eager spectators hoping for a glimpse of more blood, more madness.

She’d had enough of both to last a lifetime.

“Miss? Have you been treated?”

Kendall’s zombielike shuffling halted at the deep melodic voice close to her, and she turned to discover an EMT had appeared at her side. For a long moment she stared at him while his words slipped across the frozen surface of her mind without leaving a mark.

“I’m not hurt.” Her voice came from far off, unrecognizable and rough around the edges. Which made sense. The last time she’d used it had been to scream.

And scream.

And scream.

“You might not be hurt, but you are in shock.” Somehow she was moving again, heading for the back of an empty ambulance. It wasn’t until he helped her into it that she realized he’d pulled her along like a lost two-year-old. “I’m going to check you out, okay?”

“This blood, it’s not mine.” Amazing, how calm she sounded.

REVIEW RATING: 4.5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Review: Something very frightening is happening, right before Kendall's eyes.....

From the beginning, Nobody's Angel yanked my attention away from everything else, and I wasn't allowed to let go until the end.  That's exactly what I want in a great book- and a story like Nobody's Angel has quite a few things going for it- a mix of genres- paranormal, suspense, sizzling tension. I love books that feature ghosts- or in this novel, geists.

Kendall can't let go of the fact that something wasn't right with the situation from the beginning. She jumps right on the story, using her investigating skills to figure it out. But of course, trouble is not far behind, and neither is her hero. At first, Kendall has no idea who the Angel is, the one that keeps pulling her out of harms way in the nick of time.

The hero, Zeke, is absolutely yummy! Secretive, strong, and an attraction to Kendall. Oh, not to mention that he has a few things he's hiding from the world.

The story, plot, and pace is well done. The world building and back story of the novel were done very well.  I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series!

Are you a fan of paranormal, suspense, and contemporary all wrapped up in one sizzling read? Don't wait- Nobody's Angel awaits you today.

Review: Shadow

Title: Shadow

Author: Laurann Dohner

Publisher: Ellora’s Cave

Length:  novel

Heat Level: Hot

Rating: 5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Reviwer: Tabitha

Blurb:
Beauty resents being labeled Gift Species. Everyone is way too overprotective, males aren’t even allowed to speak to her and so far true freedom eludes her. Then a big, sexy Species officer mistakes her for the enemy and takes her to the ground.
Shadow is dumbfounded. He has a Gift pinned under him—a big no-no. But Beauty is fascinated and wants to know Shadow a lot better. She is full of newly discovered, unrequited passion and he’s just what she needs to satisfy her curiosity.
For Shadow, sex means pain and revulsion. For Beauty, it was enslavement and ridicule. Two lonely souls who have never known a lover’s touch, together in a cabin in the woods. Each touch, every discovery brings them closer to a life they never thought possible…beyond even their dreams.

Review:
Laurann Dohner takes two of the most unlikely characters and forces them together and sparks fly. You did it again Mrs. Dohner. I’m never disappointed when I read a book by this very talented author. Kudos to you for a job well done.

This is book nine is the New Species series and just like all the rest it grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let go until the end. My only disappointment came when it was over. Now I’m chomping at the bit for the next one.

Shadow is a very damaged character that has endured more than anyone should. He was abused by humans for sexual experiments and it left a bad taste in his mouth when it comes to humans. However, with time he has learned to live with the pain and come to terms with the fact that not all humans are bad. Sadly, he still chooses to live a solitary life feeling he is too damaged for anyone to love.

This character just broke my heart. For such a strong and virile man he is scarred. The more I read the more attached I became. Shadow earned his HEA and then some.

Beauty is a gift female. Gifts are just what they are named for. They were species that were given to individual humans as a gift. But they were treated just as bad as the species in the labs. Most are fearful of everything and everyone but not Beauty. She wants to live a normal life and not be treated as if she is made of glass. Even through it all, she thrives and grows emotionally stronger. Hoping one day to be with the one person that will be her mate.

I loved the fact that this character overcame so much and came out the other side stronger and not broken. When she meets Shadow, she is determined to fight for the man she loves. No matter how hard he tries to push her away.

This was a beautiful story and really tugged at my heartstrings. I felt an emotional bond with this couple that grew the more I read. There is nothing I can say negatively about this story. It is a true fairy tale.

I give this story a five and hope you will read the series. You won’t be disappointed. Congrats, on another amazing story Mrs. Dohner. Don’t forget to check out Mrs. Dohner’s other series as well. I have read them all and loved them. She is a guaranteed good read.

Happy Reading,
Tabitha Blake
