Rushing Amy

Rushing Amy
A Love and Football Novel
By: Julie Brannagh
Releasing Feb 11th, 2014
Blurb
Julie Brannagh's sparkling and romantic Love and Football series continues!
For Amy Hamilton, only three Fs matter: Family, Football, and Flowers. It might be nice to find someone to share Forever with, too, but right now she's working double overtime while she gets her flower shop off the ground. The last thing she needs or wants is a distraction … or help, for that matter. Especially in the form of gorgeous and aggravatingly arrogant ex-NFL star Matt Stephens.
Matt lives by a playbook—his playbook. He never thought his toughest opponent would come in the form of a stunning florist with a stubborn streak to match his own. Since meeting her in the bar after her sister's wedding, he's known there's something between them. After she refuses—again and again—to go out with him, Matt will do anything to win her heart … But will Amy, who has everything to lose, let the clock run out on the one-yard line?

Review Rating: 4 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Review:  After reading the first book in the Love and Football series, I was so excited for Amy's story! And after reading it, I'm even more in love with this series and this author's style.  Although to be honest, the beginning of this one didn't grab me as instantly as Emily's story. Still, I love the characters and how they interact. I LOVE the persistence of Matt. I love his little quirk in the beginning, teasing Amy and making her think something totally different. I love the way he's lived a bit of a rough life, has made some bad choices in life, but he's come around and become a different, much better man.  Some of the things he does in the book are so sweet and heartwarming.

He is a bit of a pushy guy, but he does do it out of love. He wants to fix everything for the people he loves. That isn't technically a bad thing, but Amy has this strong sense of independence. They butt heads over it.

Oh, and there's a scene between the sisters that really had me emotional. I love Emily and Amy, and their bond. This book really brings that out more as they confront old ghosts.

I'm on the verge of totally gushing, so I'll stop, but I just have to say these stories keep me on my toes. The banter, the wit, the great pace, the lovable characters that really stick with you...yeah, this is an author to watch. I know I'll be eagerly anticipating more!

His Hometown Girl Blitz

He'd always managed to best her…

Jodi Chapman will do whatever it takes to get top care for her autistic son. If that means going home and convincing local farmers to sell their land, so be it. Even if her biggest opponent, childhood rival Daniel Gleason, is equally determined to convince farmers to buy into his co-op plan. And he's not playing fair.

Facing off against Daniel is the last thing Jodi wants. The attraction that's always fueled their competitiveness is as strong as ever and just as distracting. But with both their futures on the line, and years of distrust between them, how can they ever be on the same side?

 PREORDER

Red, pink, yellow and purple flashed as she watched fireworks paint colorful patterns against black velvet. Her mouth trembled when she felt his eyes on her. “Daniel. Aren’t you going to watch the show?”
“When I see something more beautiful, I will.”
She looked at him then, her mouth parted in surprise and, as if unable to resist, he pulled her against him. The feel of him drove away rational thought, the drumbeat of her heart registering in her stomach.
“Daniel. No,” she murmured, but couldn’t move from such warm arms, every breath drawing in his faint smell of musk and fresh air, her heart full of him.
He laid his cheek against hers. “Why?” he whispered in her ear, his voice rough.
“You know why,” she whispered back, though there was no one to hear them, the distant crowd more focused on the sky. It was getting harder and harder to remember her reasons for resisting him.
Her gaze drank in the shape of him—the breadth and contours of his chest, the sharp line of his widow’s peak that her fingers had traced so many times, and his eyes, above all his incredible eyes. Confronted with his nearness, Jodi understood that she was fighting familiarity, a profound kind of recognition.
He stroked the back of her head. “I know the timing is lousy, but if we—”
“But we’re not. It makes no sense when I imagine it,” she said, almost to herself, and pulled away. His absence registered, the way it had once before, as cold rushing in to fill the void.
“So you do think about it.” His eyes lit up. “About us.”
Her sigh felt as though it came from the deepest part of her. “Oh, Daniel.”
He cupped her cheeks. “We can make this work.”
Her brows came together. “Impossible. We both have too much to lose.”
He seemed ready to argue, opening his mouth and then closing it at her firm head
shake. At last, he pulled her close instead. “Our loss, yes.”
The thought caught in her soul as he let her go.
She rose unsteadily, an impressive display of pyrotechnics signaling the show’s end. “I’d better get back in case Tyler wakes.”
They looked at each other. She didn’t want to go, the thought of leaving him and this
beautiful moment behind an almost physical ache.
“If you’re sure.”
“I’m sure,” she said, her trembling voice giving her away. There was nothing more to
say. Or too much.

Review Rating: 4.5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Review: His Hometown Girl is a well written book that had me feeling plenty of emotions. I think I really related to Jodi and her situation with her son Tyler, because I have a similar situation myself. It was easy to see myself in her shoes so many times, so that made this story and the characters real to me. (Btw, her ex is a BLEEP BLEEP BLEEPITY BLEEP)

Jodi goes to her hometown for her job, but the people there are going to change her mind in ways she could have never imagined. Oh, and Daniel...*Sigh* I love this guy! He's so good with Tyler, and he has feelings for Jodi that have never faded. Yep, these two have a history. Now if only he could convince her to give him a chance.

This is the first time reading a book by Karen Rock, and after how much I enjoyed His Hometown Girl, I'll be looking for more works from her. If you're looking for a great emotional story with richly drawn characters, you gotta try this one.

Karen Rock has adored romance since receiving Harlequin Presents books from her grandmother each summer. She formed her Young Adult writing partnership, J.K. Rock- pseudonym for the CAMP BOYFRIEND series, with her sister-in-law and Blaze author, Joanne Rock in 2011. When Karen heard of a call for submissions to Heartwarming, Harlequin’s latest line, she was inspired by the possibilities of writing unforgettable, deeply romantic, tender love stories that mothers would feel comfortable sharing with their daughters. When she’s not writing, Karen loves scouring estate sales for vintage books, cooking her grandmother's family recipes, hiking the ‘high peaks’, and redesigning her gardens. She lives in the Adirondack Mountain region with her husband, daughter, and two Cavalier King cocker spaniels who have yet to understand the concept of “fetch” though they know a lot about love.

Murphy’s Law/Contemporary Romantic Suspense

Tagline: He lost his family. She gave them back to him.
Blurb:

Home is the last place Jon Murphy can go. After being held captive in Azbakastan, he returns to the States only to find he can’t face his mom and sisters with what he did while he was a prisoner, so he retreats to the mountains.
Widow Sara Sheldon has made a lifetime of mistakes and is now running scared from her husband’s powerful family, who are determined to take her daughter away from her. When her little girl goes missing in the Rockies, Sara enlists the only help she can find: a gruff recluse with tracking skills to admire and a body to covet.
A storm strands Sara and her daughter at Murphy’s cabin, leaving her no choice but to hope her in-laws don’t catch up while she plans where to run next. Murphy resents the invasion of his privacy, but can’t seem to keep his mind--or his hands--off Sara. How can she stand to look at him, with all his scars? He’s not nearly as honorable as she might think…only enough to make sure she’s safe, and then he’ll go back to being alone, the way he should be.

Murphy sat at the kitchen table, half in the shadows created by the soft light glowing above the stove, hair tousled from sleep. Naked to the waist. A bottle of amber liquid sat in front of him, an empty glass in his hand. Her gaze landed on his muscled shoulders and trailed across his tanned chest. So much for getting him out of her mind. Now she had the real thing to dream about. Looking at the dark hairs that veed down his chest and disappeared behind the table, she decided he’d been right. He was a dangerous man.
She tore her gaze away from temptation and looked at the granite lines of his face. Beneath the hardness of his expression, something haunting lingered. Drawn, she circled the table to the opposite end.
Murphy met her eyes with coldness that should have sent her running for the safety of her room, but she remained standing in place. He wanted to chase her away. This time she wasn’t running.
“Mind if I join you?” She grabbed a glass and from the cupboard and reached over his shoulder for the bottle.
His hand snaked out and wrapped around hers, preventing her from pouring a drink.
“I mind,” he growled.
“Well, get over it. I need a drink.”
Scowling, he let go of her hand and allowed her to pour a glass for herself. She refilled his glass next, set the bottle on the table, moved to the chair beside him and sat, lifting her glass.
“Cheers.” She brought the glass to her lips. His gaze as she drained the glass made her fight the urge to cough as the fiery liquid burned its way down her throat. Seconds later she felt the familiar warming sensation as it numbed her insides. Her eyes filled with tears. She blinked them away and reached for the bottle.
Murphy held it away from her. “What are you doing?”
“Having a drink. I’m not in the mood for warm milk tonight.”
His eyes darkened and narrowed. “You don’t strike me as the drinking type.”
She wasn’t, but tonight it sounded good. Maybe it would soothe away her problems and make her forget how screwed-up her life was. Talking about Kent earlier had brought back painful memories. She didn’t want to feel that misery anymore.
“Maybe you don’t know my type,” she said.
He studied her closely for a moment before rubbing a hand over his face. “Go back to bed, Sara. Sleep it off.”
“I don’t want to sleep it off. I’m tired of thinking about it.”
Maybe it was the whisky, or his naked chest, or the part of her that had been dormant for six years coming back to life. More than anything she wanted to discover it with Murphy, her strong, scarred hero.
She rose to her feet. He watched warily as she stepped in front of him and positioned herself between him and the table. He leaned back in his chair and sent her a thunderous look.
“You and I are alike in many ways, Murphy,” she said softly. “We’ve both lost pieces of ourselves we can’t ever get back and it has forced us into a life of loneliness and solitude. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of being alone.”
He pinned her with a hard glare. “I’m not what you want. Go back to your room before I do something we’ll both regret in the morning.”
His harshly spoken words sent little electrical shocks through her body.
“I’m tired of people telling me what I want.”

This is what people are saying about Murphy’s Law:
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Cindy Gerard, Tara Janzen, or Cherry Adair series. Each of these writers have the same flavor with a secret ingredient in their stories as does Jennifer Lowery. Great story!- hmhibbit, Open Book Society on Murphy's Law

Terri Riggs Blog tour

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

That a woman can be strong and independent.  She doesn’t necessarily need a man to take care of her. I’d also like the readers to see how important it is to trust the person you love and learn to compromise when needed.

How do you come up with your characters?

I had a good idea of the story I wanted to tell and built my characters to match. I knew Mac had to be an alpha male in order to issue the ultimatum he gave Eve. I felt he needed a good reason to be so overbearing so I incorporated a tragic past for him.

Eve had to be strong enough to walk away from Mac’s demands no matter how much she loved him. As a field operative, she had to be a kick-ass agent who could defend herself against all the bad guys. She needed a background that made her desire independence.

Do you have any writing rituals that you do while writing?

I like to get my emails and social media obligations out the way first and then spend the rest of my day working on my books. And I never sit in front of my laptop without grabbing a coffee or tea. Shhh… don’t tell anyone, but I’ve been known to hide motivation chocolates in my desk drawers. A writer never know when she’ll have to bribe her muse a little.

What types of books do you enjoy reading in your free time or what do you like to do with your free time?

I usually read one book a day and love romantic suspense and historical books—specifically anything with Highlanders. You got to love a man in a kilt! When I’m not reading or writing, I spend time with my family. There’s nothing more important to me than my family.

Favorite type of music to have playing while writing?

My play list includes a little bit of everything. I love country, Broadway tunes, and oldies. Any kind of romantic song puts me in the mood to write a love scene.

Does your family read your books?

They do. After all, it was their idea for me to write!

Author Bio:

Teri Riggs was destined to be a writer. As a small girl she didn’t read bedtime stories, she made up her own. Who needed Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs when there were so many great tales bouncing around in her head? When she grew up and became a mother to three little girls, she continued the tradition of making up bedtime stories. On the occasions she chose to tell conventional fairytales, Teri usually gave them a bit of tweaking here and there or added a new ending. Her girls loved it.
After her daughters had the nerve to actually grow up and leave home, Teri discovered she had a passion for writing and jumped right in. It came as no surprise she chose to write mysteries and happily-ever-after’s since that’s the genres she loves to read.
Teri lives in Marietta, Georgia with her husband, one of her daughters and two dogs that seem to think they rule the world. And some days Teri thinks maybe they do.

Teri still frequently tells herself stories as she falls asleep. The only difference now is she wakes up the next morning and turns her bedtime stories into books.

The China Doll is Book Three in The New Pioneers Series

EXCERPT

“My dad drowned. My mom died in her sleep.”
“How old was she?”
“About twenty-six.” Jessie shuddered just a little bit. “Just a little older than Miranda is now.”
“That’s awfully young to die in your sleep.”
“Heart condition, they said.”
“Who’s they?”
“Richard and Lucy.” Jessie shook her head. “No. Just Richard.”
“What did your aunt say?”
“Nothing,” Jessie said quietly. “She just let Richard do all the talking.”
“How old was he?”
Jessie sighed. “Thirteen, I think.”
“And how old were you?”
“Four.”
“So how do you know you remember it correctly?”
Jessie looked at him square in the eye. “Because you know when you’re that age. When you’re a little kid, you don’t have to go through the apologetic BS you do when you’re older. When you’re eight, even. You just get it. And people think you’re crazy or in the way or rude because you get it and then you say it. So then no one wants to talk to you or they send you to your room. Then you start making up excuses for why they must be right and you must be wrong. Then you grow up, and you realize that you had it right back then, and if your world seems messed up, it’s because you bought into someone else’s lies. So don’t lie anymore, and everything will be just fine.”
“And when did you come to that nugget of wisdom?”
“When I was fifteen,” Jessie said quietly. “And I’ve been very happy ever since.”
